[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Gijang-gun is implementing the '2022 Comprehensive Heatwave Countermeasures' to ensure the safety of residents amid the full-scale heatwave season.
Gijang-gun has designated the heatwave countermeasure period until the end of September and established a 'Heatwave Response Joint Special Task Force (TF)' led by the head of the Safety General Division, involving four departments.
The special task force is composed of a Situation Management Team and a Health Management Support Team, working to implement practical heatwave countermeasures that help residents prepare for the heatwave.
The number of shade shelters, previously installed at 109 locations, will be increased to 122 to provide cool shade for residents, and heatwave shelters and pavilions where people can escape the heat and rest will be inspected and maintained.
Additionally, when a heatwave advisory is expected, five water spraying trucks will be operated on major roads to lower road surface temperatures and focus on mitigating the heat island effect.
To manage vulnerable groups during the heatwave, visiting health care workers and elderly caregivers will be assigned to check on elderly people living alone and vulnerable groups, helping them stay safe and healthy throughout the summer.
Jung Jong-bok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, stated, “We will actively respond to the heatwave to ensure that residents can have a safe and cool summer,” and urged, “Since the heatwave has arrived early, we will make every effort to promptly implement heatwave countermeasures.”
