Airfare, Accommodation, and Fuel Costs Surge... Tmon's Jeju Package Targeting MZ Generation Grows 190%
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Sales of Jeju package products are surging. In particular, demand is expected to increase further during the summer vacation season when family travelers increase. As airfare, accommodation, and rental fees have risen sharply, the burden has greatly increased, and Jeju package demand is increasing as an alternative to minimize travel expenses.
According to TMON on the 7th, sales of Jeju package products in June grew 190% compared to the previous month. Compared to June of the previous year, it also grew by 170%. Ahead of the peak summer vacation season in July and August, ongoing high inflation and high oil prices have caused airfare prices to skyrocket, leading to a shift in demand from overseas travel to domestic travel, concentrating on Jeju Island, a representative domestic travel destination.
Package products with increasing sales on TMON are composed around themes different from existing packages, such as dolphin tours, horseback trekking, extreme sports, and night view snaps. Additionally, hot place bus tours are gaining great popularity, satisfying the diverse tastes of the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z) and riding an upward trend.
In response, TMON announced that it has planned the 'Jeju ALL IN TMON' promotion to propose reasonable Jeju travel for customers considering summer vacations. It sells over 2,600 products including airfare, accommodation, rental cars, admission tickets, restaurants, packages, and themed tours. Notably, 'golden-priced' airfares can be purchased at discounted rates based on July peak season departures.
It is also responding to the increased demand for electric car rentals. Electric car rental sales on TMON rose 142% in the second quarter compared to the first quarter this year. Jeju Island has well-established electric vehicle charging infrastructure and many tourist spots throughout the island, so given the long travel distances during trips, the rising fuel cost burden is expected to maintain the upward trend.
Kim Hak-jong, head of TMON Tour Biz Division, said, "As airfare and accommodation prices soar, the number of '휴포족' (people who give up vacations) is increasing," adding, "Since customers' burdens are increasing, TMON has prepared various products at reasonable prices."
