[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] The electronic cigarette 'Juul,' which was facing the risk of being banned from the U.S. market, has received some relief.

On the 5th (local time), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced via Twitter that it would temporarily suspend the sales ban order issued to Juul last month.

The FDA stated that it would temporarily suspend the marketing denial order while conducting additional reviews but emphasized that this action does not cancel the previous order.

It also explained that this measure does not imply approval for Juul's promotion, sales, or distribution.

The FDA changed its stance on Juul because the court intervened. After the FDA's order, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia approved Juul's request to suspend the FDA's order while the lawsuit proceeds.

Last month, the FDA ordered a sales ban on Juul electronic cigarettes. Concerns were raised about the possibility of harmful chemicals being emitted from liquid nicotine cartridges, and voices pointed to an increase in youth smoking as a cause. Juul is an electronic cigarette that uses rechargeable devices with liquid cartridges.

With this measure, Juul has temporarily avoided the risk of market expulsion, but the manufacturer now faces the challenge of proving that electronic cigarettes contribute to health benefits.
