[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The Democratic Party of Korea has launched the Central Election Commission to prepare for the party convention scheduled for August 28. On this day, the Election Commission approved the list of subcommittee members, candidate registration schedule, and the amount of deposit fees.

On the 6th, the Democratic Party held the first meeting of the Election Commission and approved the formation of seven subcommittees. Prior to the meeting, Election Commission Chairman Do Jong-hwan said, "In Greek mythology, there is a story of a punished figure who pushes a huge rock to the top of a mountain," adding, "(The Democratic Party) has experienced the feeling of the rock rolling down after being pushed up for 10 or 20 years through multiple defeats. We are now in a time to innovate again, reorganize the party, and fulfill our responsibilities."

Member Maeng Seong-gyu was appointed as head of the General Planning Subcommittee, Seo Dong-yong as head of the Primary Election Subcommittee, Min Byung-duk as head of the Electorate Subcommittee, and former member Jeong Eun-hye as head of the Joint Speech Subcommittee. Additionally, Member Lee Jang-seop will lead the Broadcast Debate Subcommittee, Member Yang Yi-won-young the Public Relations and Digital Subcommittee, and Member Kim Hoe-jae the Fair Election Subcommittee.

The candidate registration schedule for the election of the party leader and supreme council members was also finalized for the 17th. Candidate registration applications will be accepted over two days, from the 17th to the 18th.

The deposit amounts for party leader and supreme council member candidates in the preliminary primary were also approved. The deposit is set at 15 million KRW for party leader candidates and 5 million KRW for supreme council member candidates. For youth candidates under 39 years old who are outside the party, a 50% discount applies, setting the deposit at 7.5 million KRW for party leader candidates and 2.5 million KRW for supreme council member candidates. The deposit amount for the final primary will be discussed later.
