[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is holding the Junam Rice Paddy Wetland Ecological Research Program at Junam Reservoir, a popular spot for citizens.
On the 6th, the city announced that starting from the 16th, it will hold the 'Junam Rice Paddy Wetland Ecological Research Program' at Junam Reservoir, which boasts an excellent natural environment, to provide education on rice paddy wetlands and biodiversity.
Since 2019, the Junam Rice Paddy Wetland Ecological Research Program has been held annually in partnership with the Changwon Career Education Support Center, and this year marks the 4th session.
The program is designed for family participants with children in elementary school or older and focuses on investigating and experiencing the rice paddy wetlands and biodiversity near the pristine Junam Reservoir, observing changes in rice paddy organisms, and studying their life cycles.
Participants will learn the theory of wetland water quality surveys, amphibians, fish, and other aquatic organisms every Saturday for four weeks, and then go out to the field for observation and hands-on experience.
Additionally, making eco-friendly kits using recycled materials will involve both students and parents, which is expected to have a positive effect on building empathy and bonding.
Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon, stated, “As the era of climate crisis has arrived, awareness of the environment to be passed on to future generations is important,” and added, “We will continuously create environmental education opportunities that not only our children but also parents can participate in together.”
