[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] On the 6th, the Ulsan Office of Education announced that it plans to allocate a budget of 12.7 billion KRW to distribute a total of 15,414 smart devices to 190 schools?96 elementary schools, 48 middle schools, 43 high schools, and 3 special schools?by November this year.
The Office of Education added that, in addition to device support, it has established a support system to reduce teachers' workload and enhance class concentration, including operating a dedicated call center, providing defect and maintenance services for five years, establishing regional AS centers, and installing and distributing smart device management programs.
By February next year, the plan is to provide one smart device per student to all students from elementary grade 3 through high school grade 3, ensuring an equitable digital environment for everyone.
The Office of Education recently held a field opinion listening meeting. The meeting was facilitated by a smart device expert TF team, with one facilitator assigned to each roundtable to lead discussions.
Each roundtable was composed of parents, teacher organizations, and active teachers, actively eliciting participant-centered opinions.
Various discussions took place regarding school management plans following the mass distribution of smart devices, methods of work support, and ways to alleviate work concentration. The Office of Education plans to actively listen to field opinions and reflect relevant content in its support plans.
Superintendent No Ok-hee stated, “Through the one smart device per student distribution project, we aim to enhance students' digital competencies to help them quickly adapt to the digital transformation society. We expect this to contribute to the activation of classes applying various student-centered teaching and learning methods such as cooperative learning, discussion-debate-presentation classes, and classes utilizing digital devices.”
