[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Korea Literature Translation Institute and Naver Webtoon have joined hands. The main point of the business agreement is cooperation for the overseas expansion of domestic content.
The agreement is part of a career development program for graduates of the Translation Academy affiliated with the Translation Institute. Starting from August this year, the Translation Academy will provide translation education in six languages (English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese), and Naver Webtoon will offer localization practice opportunities.
Kwack Hyo-hwan, Director of the Translation Institute, stated, "The history of Hallyu will also be the history of translation," adding, "We aim to grow as a core institution for translating Korean artistic and cultural content together with Naver Webtoon, which plays a frontline role in the overseas expansion of Korean webtoons and web novels."
Lee Shin-ok, Head of Naver Webtoon's US Content Division, said, "Translation is a highly specialized and creative field that starts with language skills and requires a deep understanding of the work and delicate expression comparable to creation," and added, "Through this agreement, we plan to discover and nurture capable translators to strengthen the global competitiveness of Korean webtoons and web novels."
