[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the morning of the 6th, Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, took part in the first morning alley cleaning of the 8th term of the elected government. This was the first step toward making Jungnang the cleanest district in Seoul. Together with a total of 20 residents, including neighborhood leaders and heads of professional organizations, they swept a total of 570 meters around Myeonmok 5-dong.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “Today marks the 109th alley cleaning, and the first since the 8th term began. I thank the residents who worked hard with us from early morning,” adding, “We will continue to sweep and clean every corner to make Jungnang-gu the cleanest and most livable neighborhood in Seoul and open the mornings of Jungnang-gu.”

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, took the opportunity of his inauguration for the 8th term to personally visit 32 departments of the district office, 14 neighborhoods, and the Dobong-gu Public Health Center from July 4 to 6, greeting employees one by one.

Before touring the departments, Mayor Oh visited the Dobong-gu branch office of the Public Officials Union to discuss fair personnel management, welfare improvement, and working environment enhancement. He then visited each department and neighborhood community center, exchanging fist bumps with each employee.

At the workplace, Mayor Oh introduced himself as a “new employee” and urged staff to work together for the change of Dobong-gu, emphasizing a horizontal organizational culture and communication.

Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, “I believe leadership that puts aside honor and power to communicate and empathize with employees is the ‘modern leadership.’ Just as you sincerely serve the residents, I will do my best to support you so that you have no inconvenience in your work,”

He continued, “I thank the employees who demonstrate expertise in their respective fields despite the heat. As I go back and forth between Seoul City and the government, I ask for your great support so that I can successfully work as a ‘Dobong-gu salesperson.’”

Moon Heon-il, Mayor of Guro-gu, held the first executive meeting after the inauguration of the 8th term of the elected government.

The executive meeting held on the 5th at the district office’s Creative Hall was attended by directors, department heads, and neighborhood chiefs, who reported on key tasks by department and neighborhood.

After the reports, Mayor Moon said, “I am very pleased to work with you all,” and added, “Now that the election is over and the 8th term started on the 1st of this month, I ask everyone to return to their original posture and work hard for the development and future of Guro.”

He also mentioned details on current issues such as personnel, flood and heatwave response, COVID-19, and campaign promises.

First, he said, “Regarding personnel matters such as transfers and promotions, we will do our best to ensure fair personnel management that rewards employees who perform their duties faithfully and achieve results.”

He also expressed gratitude, saying, “On the 30th of last month, heavy rain caused flooding in major rivers such as Anyangcheon, and I was surprised by the many employees working hard on flood recovery.”

In particular, he urged, “Please pay attention so that elderly people vulnerable to heatwaves and COVID-19 can have a cool summer,” and added, “To prevent the resurgence of COVID-19, we will strengthen quarantine management at crowded multi-use facilities such as swimming pools during summer and strictly adhere to indoor mask-wearing and other daily quarantine measures.”

Finally, he said, “The review meeting for the 8th term campaign promises will start on the 6th and continue until the 13th,” adding, “The derived campaign promises will be carefully re-examined and adjusted. I ask the relevant departments to consider various aspects and strive to make feasible promises.”
