Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced that it will hold the 2022 ‘Integrity Live’ education for the first-class clean city Seocho at 2 p.m. on the 12th at the Seocho Culture and Arts Center.

This education is designed to raise public officials’ interest in integrity and spread an integrity culture, with about 600 employees including Mayor Jeon Seong-su and district executives attending.

The district prepared this education in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s Integrity Training Institute, using cultural and artistic content to make the somewhat rigid topic of ‘integrity’ more enjoyable and comfortable for employees to cultivate an integrity mindset and spread an integrity culture.

The education will include various programs such as a special lecture on the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act enforced since May 19, a Pansori (traditional Korean narrative singing) ‘Chunhyangjeon’ depicting Lee Mong-ryong’s becoming a high-ranking public official by passing the state examination, sand art reflecting on the meaning of integrity in daily life, and an inspiring integrity video featuring interviews and support from actual public officials.

Last year, the district received the highest grade among Seoul autonomous districts in the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s integrity evaluation. This year, it continues efforts to improve integrity, including operating an integrity triangle for managing corruption-prone construction supervision, sending ‘integrity text messages’ to construction contractors with contracts over 5 million KRW to guide the corruption reporting center, and operating the anonymous mobile reporting channel ‘Seocho Integrity Talk.’

Mayor Jeon Seong-su of Seocho-gu said, “I hope this education will be an opportunity to think once more about the importance and value of integrity and to foster a clean public service culture.”

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will support up to 8 million KRW per company to improve the working environment of sewing workers.

After being selected for the ‘2022 Seoul-type Garment Manufacturing Company Working Environment Improvement Contest Project,’ Seongdong-gu recruited garment manufacturing companies in April and selected 53 companies through the Seoul City contest review committee. With a total budget of 250 million KRW, selected companies will receive up to 8 million KRW per company excluding a 20% self-payment portion.

Items supported for working environment improvement include about 40 items such as fire extinguishers and fire detectors to reduce fire risk, air conditioners and LED lighting for a comfortable work environment, industrial vacuum cleaners, and cutting tables to improve work efficiency and productivity.

More than half of garment manufacturing companies are located underground, making ventilation difficult due to dust and lint from fabrics, with old electrical facilities and flammable synthetic fibers mixed in. The district official explained that this support project will transform these poor environments into much more comfortable workplaces.

Seongdong-gu, home to over 2,000 garment manufacturing companies concentrated in areas like Hongik-dong and Doseon-dong, opened the Seongdong Smart Fashion Center (‘21.4) to create a joint production infrastructure for garment manufacturing, including smart automation equipment (automatic cutting machines), and continues to provide various support to garment companies.

Additionally, in March, the district launched the ‘Seongdong-gu National Design Team’ to actively identify and find solutions to problems faced by unregistered sewing industry workers, known as ‘Gaekgong,’ from their perspective.

Last month, the district distributed 300 ‘special waste collection boxes’ and 1,000 cool mat cushions to sewing workers, accelerating Seongdong-type ESG practices that enhance values of ‘safety’ and ‘environment’ along with recycling rates of collected special waste.

Mayor Jung Won-oh of Seongdong-gu said, “I hope this will help garment manufacturing companies and workers who are the backbone of the local industry despite difficult conditions. We will continue efforts to protect workers’ health and safety.”

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is establishing a resource circulation system that recycles coffee grounds as eco-friendly resources and is recruiting coffee shops to participate in the coffee grounds recycling project.

Only 0.2% of coffee beans are used after extraction, and 99.8% become grounds that are discarded as household waste through landfill or incineration. In this process, coffee shops bear the cost of volume-based waste bags, and the district bears incineration and landfill costs.

In April, Gwangjin-gu signed a business agreement with the local social cooperative ‘Resources and Circulation,’ which has specialized technology for coffee grounds recycling, launching the ‘Coffee Grounds Recycling Project’ to utilize 99.8% of coffee grounds as valuable resources.

Coffee shops only need to separately store coffee grounds in their stores, and the collection company visits the stores on designated days and times to collect the grounds.

Through this, participating shops can display the ‘Eco Cafe Certification Sticker’ to promote themselves as eco-friendly businesses creating green consumption, while reducing household waste disposal costs.

The collected coffee grounds will be recycled as cattle feed and eco-friendly wood raw materials.

The district is recruiting coffee shops to join the project from this month, targeting about 600 coffee shops in the area. Interested businesses can apply by filling out an application form on the Gwangjin-gu website and submitting it via email. For more details, contact the Gwangjin-gu Cleaning Division.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu said, “The coffee grounds recycling project not only reduces costs for coffee shops but also greatly contributes to the environment by reducing greenhouse gases. We hope for active participation. The district will continue to promote various policies to achieve a sustainable future such as carbon neutrality.”

Additionally, the district is promoting the 2022 public-private cooperation project ‘Making Clean Gwangjin through Resource Circulation Activities,’ operating various programs that allow residents to practice resource circulation in daily life, including the ‘Coffee Grounds Recycling Project,’ ‘Resource Circulation Activist Training Program,’ and ‘Plogging for Resource Circulation.’
