Geumcheon-gu Opens Water Play Facilities at 10 Locations Including Geumnarae Central Park


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that water play facilities will be operated in 10 parks until August 21.


The water play facilities installed in children's parks, which children avoid due to the hot sun and heated playground equipment during the hot summer, are expected to become a cool resting place for Geumcheon-gu residents during the summer.


The parks in Geumcheon-gu equipped with water play-type water features are ▲Geumnarae Central Park ▲Cheoljjuk Children's Park ▲Bujangcheon Children's Park ▲Neutinamu Children's Park ▲Haetae Children's Park ▲Eunhaeng Children's Park ▲Jindallae Children's Park ▲Byeoljanggil Children's Park ▲Dongsan Children's Park ▲Somang Children's Park, totaling 10 locations.


Each park is equipped with distinctive water play facilities. Bujangcheon Children's Park has a combination playground and wall fountain, Cheoljjuk Children's Park has a water play-type combination playground, Jindallae Children's Park has a wall fountain and ground fountain, Neutinamu, Haetae, Byeoljanggil, and Dongsan Children's Parks have ground fountains and splash areas, and Somang Children's Park has a mist fountain, offering various pleasures to children.


The operating hours are from 1:00 PM to 4:40 PM. After 40 minutes of operation, there is a 20-minute cleaning and rest period. The facilities are closed on Mondays for maintenance and are not operated during rainy weather.


Geumcheon-gu manages the water quality of the water play-type water features through regular water replacement, cleaning of floors and reservoirs, automatic ozone disinfection, and automatic chlorine disinfection, operating automatic filtration devices. Additionally, water quality test results will be posted in each park for public viewing.


Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "We will do our best to ensure that residents exhausted by the heat can safely and comfortably enjoy water play in the parks."

Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) will create and operate water play areas in the children's playgrounds of Gajaeul Children's Park (Namgajwa 1-dong 385-2) and Jungang Neighborhood Park (Bukgajwa 1-dong 480) for one month from the 15th of this month to the 15th of next month.


The operating hours are from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with a rest period from 45 minutes past each hour to the top of the hour. The facilities are closed every Monday for inspection. They operate on weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.


For the safety of children, the water play areas are filled with tap water and the water is replaced daily for quality management. Showers and temporary changing rooms are provided for convenience, and safety personnel are also assigned.


The water play area sizes are 200㎡ at Gajaeul Children's Park and 251㎡ at Jungang Neighborhood Park, with a depth of about 20cm, enough to cover an adult's ankle.


These water play areas can be used together with playground equipment such as slides, and small water waterfalls operate to add to children's enjoyment. The district created these parks considering such uses during the summer.


Lee Seong-heon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "We will do our best to manage water quality and safety at the water play areas," adding, "I hope children enjoy a fun and cool summer here."

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) announced on the 6th that it received 512,000 masks of hope for overcoming COVID-19 from the nonprofit organization Sharing Hope People.


The district plans to distribute masks to taxi drivers through corporate taxi companies and model driver associations.


Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "I thank the officials of Sharing Hope People for their continuous support and practicing neighborly love."


Sharing Hope People is a social public interest corporation that has donated a total of 1.44 billion KRW worth of scholarships for low-income students, quarantine supplies, and daily necessities sets to Jungnang-gu over the past four years.

A slogan contest reflecting the future vision of Gangseo-gu's 8th elected administration will be promoted.


Seoul Gangseo-gu (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) announced that it will hold a contest for the district slogan to be used during the newly launched 8th elected administration's four years until the 13th.


This contest was prepared to realize district administration with direct resident participation, seeking future-oriented and dynamic phrases that reflect the direction Gangseo-gu should take in the 8th elected administration.


The contest targets slogans that reflect the vision and policy direction of Gangseo-gu's 8th elected administration, policy directions Gangseo-gu should pursue, and phrases that can concisely express Gangseo-gu's new image.


Examples include the five major pledges of the 8th elected administration of Gangseo-gu: ▲Magok development across all Gangseo areas ▲Gangseo as a good place to raise children ▲Walking together with socially vulnerable groups ▲Gangseo full of culture and arts ▲Gangseo safe from hate and hazardous facilities, which can be well expressed in the slogans.


Anyone interested in Gangseo-gu can participate, and applications can be submitted through the link (Google Form) posted on Gangseo-gu Office's website, blog, or official SNS such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube until the 13th. Submissions can also be made by visiting or mailing to the Gangseo-gu Planning and Budget Division.


Slogan entries must be within 15 characters, and additional explanations about the slogan's meaning and content should be included.


The district will comprehensively evaluate the submitted slogans for symbolism, suitability, usability, and creativity, selecting 12 excellent works (1 grand prize, 1 excellence prize, 10 encouragement prizes). The results will be posted on the Gangseo-gu Office website in July, and winners will be individually notified.


Prize money will be awarded according to the award level: 300,000 KRW for the grand prize winner, 200,000 KRW for the excellence prize winner, and gifticons worth 10,000 KRW each for the 10 encouragement prize winners.


The district will select the official slogan for the 8th elected administration after practical consultations among the selected works.


Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, "This contest is a very important process to set the direction Gangseo-gu should take in the future," adding, "We will do our best to make the new Gangseo of the 8th elected administration one where all residents participate and cooperate."
