[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 5th, Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, visited the construction site of Local Road No. 60 in Gimhae City and the heatwave shelter in Hallim-myeon to inspect the heatwave response system.

At the construction site, Governor Park urged, "Please thoroughly manage the site to alleviate the inconvenience of residents even if it means partial opening, and be careful not to suffer heat-related illnesses or safety accidents."

At the shelter, he promised, "We will gradually increase provincial funding to operate senior centers so that the elderly can spend the summer healthily at the heatwave shelters," adding, "Along with senior welfare policies, we will develop senior centers into the cultural hubs of villages."

After reviewing the on-site response situation, he also requested countermeasures for outdoor workers and the elderly population vulnerable to heatwaves.

Gyeongnam Province has been operating a heatwave countermeasure period from May 20 to September 30, implementing customized measures to prevent casualties and property damage for outdoor workers and those in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors.

▲ Pilot operation of the Happy SMS alert service ▲ Operation of heatwave shelters ▲ Welfare checks through community leaders and autonomous disaster prevention groups are currently underway.

According to the province, as of 11 a.m. on the 30th of last month, after the first heatwave warning was issued, as of the 5th, heatwave warnings are in effect in four cities/counties including Yangsan, Miryang, Changnyeong, and Hapcheon, while heatwave advisories are in effect in the remaining 12 cities/counties in Gyeongnam.

On the 1st, the first case of a man in his 40s working at an agricultural product wholesale market in the province dying from a heat-related illness was reported.

To prevent casualties due to the heatwave, Gyeongnam Province has been promoting heatwave prevention measures and inspecting surveillance activities targeting all cities and counties since the 4th.

They promote the three basic rules of "water, shade, rest" to protect the health of outdoor workers and managers who are susceptible to heat-related illnesses and provide safety work guidelines education for heatwave preparedness.

Private businesses will strengthen guidance and inspections in collaboration with the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency to ensure measures for preventing heat-related illnesses are implemented.

On the 6th, an emergency heatwave response meeting will be held to conduct surveillance activities with local autonomous disaster prevention groups and disaster helpers, and to inspect facilities for vulnerable groups such as the elderly to prevent heatwave damage.

On this day, Governor Park ordered related departments and cities/counties, "This summer's scorching heat is expected to be severe," and urged, "Please devote all efforts to the health and safety management of residents."
