Record-High Inflation... Market Kurly's Lunchbox and Sandwich Sales Soar Lunchbox sold at Market Kurly.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Market Kurly announced on the 5th that as unprecedented high inflation continues, products that allow for convenient lunch solutions such as lunch boxes and sandwiches are gaining popularity.


According to Market Kurly, sales of cup lunch boxes from April to June this year increased by 1.6 times compared to the first quarter. During the same period, sales of rice bowl dishes and gimbap, which reduce hassle by microwave cooking, also increased by 1.4 times and 1.3 times respectively.


Sandwiches and bakery product lines also sold well. Sandwich sales, often chosen by office workers as a substitute for a lunch meal, increased by 1.4 times, and hot dog sales, which provide a hearty feeling of fullness, increased by 4 times. Energy bar sales, which can replace a meal, also rose by 1.4 times, and nut products consumed daily in single packs surged by 1.7 times.


A Market Kurly representative said, “Due to rising dining-out prices, customer demand for convenient and cost-effective meal products such as lunch boxes is increasing,” adding, “In response to this situation, we plan to expand related new products, including the launch of frozen gimbap that can be stored for about 12 months while maintaining the moist texture of the rice.”
