Revised Edition of Novel 'Pachinko' Released on the 27th... Includes 'Letter to Readers' Added

[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The novel "Pachinko" by Korean-American author Lee Min-jin will be officially published on the 27th of this month. It has been three months since it was out of print due to copyright issues. The revised edition is praised for correcting mistranslations and more faithfully reflecting the original intent.

According to the publishing industry on the 4th, Influential Publishing will first release the revised edition of Pachinko Volume 1 on the 27th. Volume 2 is expected to be released around the end of August. Pre-orders will begin on the 11th through Kyobo Bookstore, Yes24, Aladin, and others.

The translation was done by translator Shin Seung-mi. It is known that the finishing work on Volume 2 is currently underway.

A publishing company official stated, "There were many mistranslations in the first edition, so we comprehensively corrected these parts in the revised edition," adding, "Although it is Anglo-American literature, some parts were translated as if it were a Korean novel, so the new translation aims to better capture the original intent."

The revised edition will include a "Letter to Korean Readers" written by author Lee Min-jin. The cover design has been decided and is awaiting the author's approval.

Pachinko is a novel depicting the turbulent lives of Korean residents in Japan who moved from Yeongdo, Busan during the Japanese colonial period to Osaka, Japan, spanning four generations. It was published in the United States in 2017 and was a finalist for the National Book Award.

Earlier this year, it gained attention as it was produced as a drama on Apple TV+. Meanwhile, the copyright held by the previous publisher, Munhak Sasangsa, expired, leading to a temporary halt in book sales. Subsequently, Influential Publishing acquired the new rights and is preparing for re-publication.
