[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency has decided to directly investigate the 'Seongnam FC Sponsorship Fund Allegation' involving Lee Jae-myung, a Democratic Party lawmaker.

On the 4th, the Gyeonggi Nambu Agency announced that the Bundang Police Station, which had been handling the Seongnam FC sponsorship fund allegation case, recently requested to transfer the case, and the investigation materials will be handed over to the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit within this week. The police explained that the background for the case transfer was due to the Bundang Police Station being overloaded with investigations related to election crimes during two rounds of elections, including the presidential and local elections, making it difficult to focus resources on specific cases.

With this, the Gyeonggi Nambu Agency will take charge of most cases involving lawmaker Lee, including the Baekhyeon-dong development project allegations, the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) dormitory secret camp allegations, and Kim Hye-kyung's alleged private use of corporate credit cards. Previously, the Bundang Police Station had decided not to indict the 'Seongnam FC Sponsorship Fund Allegation' case once last year, but following the prosecution's request for supplementary investigation this year, they conducted a reinvestigation, including raids on Seongnam FC headquarters and Doosan Construction.
