Chungcheong Region Nears 1 Million Signatures for Hosting Summer Universiade Campaign

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Chungcheong region is on the verge of reaching the target for the '1 Million Signature Campaign' to jointly host the Summer Universiade.

On the 5th, the Chungcheong Region Joint Hosting Committee for the '2027 Summer Universiade' (hereafter the Committee) announced that the number of participants in the signature campaign has exceeded 930,000.

This means that in just over three months since the campaign started, more than 90% of the target has been achieved, and the Committee expects that the goal of 1 million signatures will be reached within this month if the current trend continues.

The Committee plans to deliver the signature book to the Summer Universiade Executive Committee inspection team scheduled to visit Korea on the 26th of next month once the signature campaign concludes.

Previously, the Chungcheong region submitted a letter of intent to host the Summer Universiade to the International Federation in September last year and is currently competing with North Carolina, USA, as a final candidate city for hosting rights.

The host city for the Summer Universiade will be finally decided at the Executive Committee General Assembly held in Brussels, Belgium, on November 12, following an on-site inspection by the Executive Committee inspection team.

A Committee official said, “We have achieved 90% of our target in just over three months since starting the signature campaign,” and added, “The Committee will not only reach 1 million participants in the signature campaign but also perfectly complete the inspection by the Executive Committee visiting next month to ensure that the Chungcheong region can ultimately secure the hosting rights for the Summer Universiade.”
