[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 4th, Kang Byung-won, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on former emergency committee chair Park Ji-hyun's bid for party leader, saying, “Park mentioned various party reform plans, and I think there are many parts that deserve careful attention. It is essential that such topics are thoroughly discussed at our party convention, and I believe it is also necessary for attracting interest.”

On the same day, Kang appeared on MBC's Kim Jong-bae's Focus and said, “Regarding the eligibility issue for candidacy, since the emergency committee is discussing it, we should wait for the results.”

Regarding Lee Jae-myung's challenge for party leadership, he stated, “I do not think Lee Jae-myung would use the party or the position of party leader as a shield to evade his own difficulties.” He added, “The opposing side will use every means to shake our party’s leadership. In that regard, the reform and unification efforts we want to pursue could be hindered.”

Following Kang, Park Yong-jin and Kang Hoon-sik, the so-called '97 generation' candidates, declared their bids for party leader. Regarding the issue of unification raised, Kang said, “Kang Byung-won claims to be new wine, but you haven’t even tasted the flavor. Park Yong-jin’s flavor is still lacking, and Kang Hoon-sik doesn’t even know what kind of wine it is.” However, he added, “After tasting, there might come a time when mixing each of these wines into a so-maek would be good.”
