[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Lee Sang-min, a five-term senior member of the Democratic Party of Korea, directly criticized Lee Jae-myung, who hinted at running in the party convention, and former emergency committee chair Park Ji-hyun on the 3rd, saying, "Both are equally sophistry and utterly shameless."
Through Facebook on the same day, Lee said, "The current Democratic Party is too contaminated and shamelessness is rampant. It is frustrating as the front, back, right, left, up, and down are all filled with dark clouds."
Regarding former emergency committee chair Park Ji-hyun, he pointed out, "She is not even a party member with the right to vote, yet despite being responsible for the crushing defeat in the local elections, she talks about running for party leader and uses the justification of promoting the five major party reform plans to claim responsibility." About Lee Jae-myung, he said, "He should bear great responsibility for the defeat in the presidential and local elections, but he is stirring up the atmosphere by saying he will take on the party leadership and lead party reform."
He continued, "Instead of stepping back because of responsibility, they are stepping forward. Since when has our Democratic Party dared to act so irresponsibly and shamelessly?" he criticized.
Lee Sang-min said, "On top of that, those who have played the role of Red Guards on both sides are suddenly laundering themselves and stepping forward as reformers... Ah, pretending not to know requires too much patience." He added, "Those who defected in disguise, violating the National Assembly Act and democracy, dragging the party into ruin, are not remorseful but rather boast about rejoining the party. Various absurd theories and rumors are rampant, such as the Cheoreomhoe being a martyr organization for reform."
He went on, "The helplessness of not even declaring the dissolution of entrenched factions, the petty opportunism of trying to please or ride on the malignant fandom, make it feel like we are in a den full of monsters and zombies. It is shocking how our Democratic Party has become so filthy and contaminated," and emphasized, "I strongly urge at least a few representative figures to step back."
