[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] On Sunday the 3rd, heatwave warnings were issued for most regions nationwide as scorching heat prevailed. Jeju Island is expected to experience rain due to the indirect influence of Typhoon No. 4 ‘Aere’.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the daytime high temperature is forecasted to be between 29 and 36 degrees Celsius, with the highest apparent temperature rising to 33 to 35 degrees Celsius, making it very hot. Many areas will also experience tropical nights, with nighttime lows remaining above 25 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures will soar to 36 degrees in Daegu, 34 degrees in Gwangju and Daejeon, and 33 degrees in Seoul and Gangneung.

The previous day also saw the heat intensify, with many places nationwide recording the highest temperatures for early July. In Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, the daytime high reached 37.2 degrees Celsius, and new highs were recorded in Daejeon (35.3°C), Busan (32.2°C), Taebaek (33.0°C), Suncheon (33.2°C), Andong (36.3°C), and Sangju (35.9°C).

The heatwave is expected to continue today, making it difficult to escape the heat. In the afternoon, most inland areas nationwide will experience showers of 5 to 40 mm accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning.

Additionally, due to the influence of the northward-moving Typhoon Aere, the eastern, southern, and mountainous areas of Jeju Island will receive 10 to 50 mm of rain from daytime today until the morning of the day after tomorrow, while the northern and western parts of Jeju Island and the southern coast will occasionally see 5 to 30 mm of rain from this evening until early morning the day after tomorrow.

Typhoon Aere is expected to be located about 290 km north-northwest of Okinawa, Japan, around 3 p.m. today. It will then move northward northwest of Okinawa and is expected to be located about 190 km south of Seogwipo on the 4th. Accordingly, Jeju Island should be cautious as winds will blow very strongly from the night of the 4th, with speeds of 35 to 60 km/h, gusts exceeding 70 km/h, and in mountainous areas of Jeju, gusts exceeding 90 km/h.

Fine dust levels will be between ‘Good’ and ‘Moderate’ across all regions. Until morning, dense fog with visibility below 200 meters is expected mainly in the central west coast, northern inland Gyeonggi, northern inland Gangwon, and mountainous areas, and fog with visibility below 1 km will occur mainly in central inland areas, so caution is advised for traffic safety.
