Yuseonghun, Geumcheon District Mayor, Holds On-Site Inauguration Event with Residents Instead of Formal Ceremony on the 1st... Inspects Key Projects Including Health Clinics, Traditional Markets, Youth Facilities, and Holds Resident Meeting

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) replaced the traditional inauguration ceremony on July 1, the start of the 8th term of the elected government, with inspections of key sites and listening to residents' voices.

On that day, Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, visited the Parkmi Health Center, a site for resident health care policies, to observe the low-sodium practice class and exercise class operations.

Parkmi Health Center was established in 2020 in Siheung 3-dong to support medical and health services. Although residents had difficulty using it due to COVID-19, operations resumed in May, and health care projects for residents are being promoted.

Afterwards, he moved to Nammun Market to inspect the newly built Customer Support Center aimed at improving convenience for market merchants and users. He then visited stores to hear the merchants' candid voices.

On July 4, he plans to visit the Geumcheon-gu Youth Support Center ‘Kkumdeulim’ and the alternative education institution ‘Wondoo’ to hold a meeting with out-of-school youth, seeking support measures so that these youths can achieve their dreams without discrimination.

He will also hold a regular assembly for all employees to communicate, cooperate, and pledge to devote themselves to work for the residents.

I am Yu Seong-hoon, the 8th elected mayor of Geumcheon-gu.

I consider it an immense honor to stand here again as the mayor of Geumcheon-gu for the 8th term, and I sincerely thank everyone who has given me generous support and encouragement.

First, I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the residents who endured great hardship during the two years of overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

And I also thank the dedicated medical staff and related public officials.

Over the past four years, Geumcheon-gu has solved one by one the long-awaited projects that residents dreamed of, leading change and innovation as an autonomous district.

The police station and fire station were opened in succession, the long-awaited Shinansan Line construction began, preparations for a large general hospital started, and progress is being made toward relocating the Air Force base that hindered regional development.

The 8th term will focus on the full-scale development of urban infrastructure including transportation, residential maintenance, and regional development, as well as the development of distribution and steel markets, aiming for a leap forward as a gateway city in the southwest region. At the same time, we must devote ourselves to growing as an educational and cultural city, expanding the local economy and jobs, and building a community where neighbors care for each other.

Respected residents of Geumcheon-gu,

I believe the ultimate goal of local governments is ‘the happiness of residents.’

During the election period, I met countless residents and heard their vivid voices from the field.

All residents wished for one thing: to communicate with the residents, reflect the opinions from the field, and create a city where everyone, regardless of age or gender, can live well.

I will become a mayor who understands the difficulties and urgencies of residents in every alley and empowers the lives of residents.

To achieve Geumcheon’s development, I will continuously innovate administration to raise the status of Geumcheon-gu Office as a principled, common-sense, honest, and competent institution.

As a reliable supporter who cares for residents’ lives, I will listen attentively to even the smallest voices of residents from a humble position and create a livable Geumcheon filled with happiness for each resident.

I will lead ‘Unstoppable Development of Geumcheon’ and open the ‘Confident Era of Geumcheon’ by deeply engraving the expectations, wishes, and solemn responsibility of 260,000 residents in my heart, ensuring that all residents can smile brightly as we drive Geumcheon’s development and growth.

In the 8th term, I and the 1,000 public officials of Geumcheon will solve the remaining tasks of Geumcheon-gu through five promises for Geumcheon’s development, creating a confident era of Geumcheon that residents can feel.

First, I will create a city ‘Moving Forward Geumcheon’ that leaps forward with me.

We will strive for regional development by promoting the early completion of the Shinansan Line and the general hospital, as well as advancing feasibility studies for the light rail Nangok Line (Geumgwang Line) and the extension of Incheon Subway Line 2, improving road traffic systems.

We will build a new complex station with commercial and cultural functions on the site of Geumcheon-gu Office Station, create Geumcheon Citizens’ Square, promote feasibility studies for the development of the Southern Women’s Development Center in Siheung 4-dong, and steadily proceed with the complex development of the Southern Women’s Development Center.

To achieve balanced development between east and west Geumcheon, we will establish a dedicated organization at the district office for redevelopment, open roads between east and west through redevelopment, and actively support housing maintenance projects including reconstruction and redevelopment.

We will upgrade Geumcheon’s basic transportation and living infrastructure, creating a Geumcheon that leaps forward with me and moves ahead.

Second, I will build a ‘Future Education, History and Culture City Geumcheon’ full of learning and enjoyment.

We will prepare future-oriented education for the 4th industrial revolution and expand support programs for Geumbit School, establishing an education support system centered on public education.

To nurture future talents of Geumcheon, we will expand four major experiential schools in health, science, environment, and musicals, build a career and academic support center, form a district-wide education development promotion committee, and foster well-rounded talents with balanced intellect and emotion across education, culture, and arts, growing Geumcheon into an educational mecca.

We will expand infrastructure for community sports and support for resident sports clubs, increase cultural welfare facilities such as the West Seoul Museum of Art, Geumcheon Representative Library, and cultural governance spaces, and create the first year of full-scale community sports activation and a ‘10-minute neighborhood’ Geumcheon rich in history and cultural welfare through the creation of the Hoamsanseong historical and cultural trail.

Third, I will establish a ‘Warm Geumcheon’ care, welfare, and health city where all residents participate together.

We will establish the Geumcheon Welfare Foundation to systematically manage and operate welfare projects, providing stronger support where needed.

We will create a customized welfare system operating policies that precisely meet the needs of users, including building a Youth Dream Center, supporting the disabled and out-of-school youth, one-person households, women’s safety packages, and the Cheer Up Middle-aged Project.

Along with the completion of the general hospital, we will build public medical welfare facilities such as a dementia relief center and infectious disease prevention and control center, strengthen medical welfare accessibility through a system of one main health center and three branch health centers including Doksan, Parkmi, and Hannae health centers, and create a healthy city Geumcheon.

Fourth, I will create a ‘Just and Beneficial Geumcheon’ through administrative innovation.

We will establish one Happiness Center per dong (neighborhood) so that all residents can receive administrative services nearby and greatly expand resident convenience facilities.

We will operate a field mayor’s office and strengthen communication with residents along with administrative services suited to the digital transformation era.

With a vision of neighborhood autonomy close to residents’ daily lives, we will fully promote Geumcheon-style resident councils and create an honest and transparent administrative culture always open to residents.

We will establish an Alley Economy Support Center to create opportunities for coexistence and cooperation between large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises, pioneer new sales channels for traditional markets and local commercial districts, and expand support.

Preparing for the 4th industrial revolution, we will build the foundation for the Geumcheon Industrial Promotion Agency, expand the job stock company project, and focus on creating good jobs.

Finally, I will create a ‘Family and Sustainable Environment City Geumcheon’ that cares for families and the environment.

We will promote the construction of the Geumcheon Family Center to enhance the precious value of families, and improve the quality of childcare environments such as specialized education and ecological learning at daycare centers to make Geumcheon a better place for both parents and children.

To provide a safe care environment that parents can trust, we will expand care facilities such as Kiwoom Centers and strive to create a culture where people can enjoy life with their pets.

We will build green infrastructure such as the ecological parkification of Siheung Valley, the creation of a waterfront-friendly living space along Anyangcheon Stream, and the development of parks in the Gasan-dong living area, creating a green city Geumcheon where nature and life harmonize, while doing our best to relocate the Doksan recycling facility early.

I and the 1,000 public officials of Geumcheon will open the future of Geumcheon’s development with a humble attitude.

We will run into the field and into the residents.

Based on the experience of the 7th term, the 8th term will develop without pause,

and I am confident that Geumcheon will move forward more confidently.

I believe in the strength of the residents who have created a happy Geumcheon in every neighborhood.

Now, our Geumcheon will overcome the old image of the outskirts of Seoul,

and leap forward as a cutting-edge gateway city leading Seoul.
