Yongsan District Mayor Park Hee-young Visits Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on First Workday, Receives Heavy Rain Damage Report · Inspects Flood Control and Flood-Prone Facilities for Torrential Rain, Focuses on Resident Safety · Skips Inauguration Ceremony of 8th Term, Holds Department Tours to Meet Staff
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the first day of his term, June 1, Yongsan District Mayor Park Hee-young began his schedule by receiving reports on whether there was any damage in the area caused by the heavy rain that fell until the previous day, and visiting flood control facilities and flood-prone sites to check their safety in order to prevent future damage.
At 8 a.m. that day, Mayor Park visited the National Seoul National Cemetery with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and the heads of 25 autonomous districts to pay respects. After arriving at the district office, he briefly greeted some employees on the second floor and immediately went to the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the sixth floor to assess the heavy rain situation.
He then moved to flood prevention facilities and flood-prone sites within the district, including the 5th redevelopment zone of the International Building in Hangangno 2-ga-dong, Sinyongsan Underpass, and Hangang Bridge rainwater pumping station, to inspect safety measures and review preparations against heavy rain.
Following Mayor Park’s intention, instead of holding a grand inauguration ceremony after the site inspection, he held a meeting with social welfare officials who are working hard for residents facing difficulties. In the afternoon, to break away from excessive protocol and events, he minimized the number of aides and toured all departments of the district office and major facilities, spending a meaningful first day in office.
After work, he visited Yongmun Market to meet merchants struggling due to the economic downturn, listen to their inconveniences and areas needing improvement, and offer encouragement.
Yongsan District Mayor Park Hee-young said, “To overcome the current difficulties such as rising prices and heavy rain, I will focus administrative power solely on the will of the residents. Together with the capable 1,300 Yongsan District Office public officials, I am confident we can achieve this. The reason I did not hold an inauguration ceremony on the first day but visited the field is the same. I will do my best with humility and without losing my initial resolve.”
