[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Amid President Joe Biden's approval rating hitting its lowest level, former President Donald Trump is significantly ahead in the hypothetical matchup for the next presidential election.
According to a poll released on the 1st (local time) by Emerson College, in the 2024 presidential election hypothetical matchup, President Biden recorded a 39% approval rating, while former President Trump received 44%. This marks a 3 percentage point drop in Biden's approval compared to the poll released on the 1st of last month. Trump's approval rating remained the same.
President Biden's job approval rating was recorded at 40%. Fifty-three percent of respondents said they do not support Biden's job performance. This survey was conducted nationwide from the 28th to 29th of last month, targeting 1,271 people.
However, other polls show that a significant number of people oppose the re-election bids of both President Biden and former President Trump.

Additionally, 61% of all respondents said former President Trump should also "not run for re-election." The reasons cited included ▲ Trump being a "weirdo" (36%) ▲ causing division in the country (33%) ▲ responsibility for the January 6 Capitol riot (30%).
Sixty percent of all respondents said that if President Biden and former President Trump were to face off again in the next presidential election, they would support a third candidate, an independent with moderate views.
