[Jangheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seunghyun Jeong] Kim Seong, governor of Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, held an inauguration ceremony at the Jangheung County Residents' Hall on the 1st, marking a new start for the 8th term of the Jangheung County government.
According to the county on the 1st, Governor Kim began his official schedule with a visit to the Chung-hon Tower in the morning, followed by the inauguration ceremony, commemorative tree planting, meal service at the senior welfare center, and visits to institutions and social organizations.
The county prepared the inauguration ceremony modestly and with dignity, focusing on creating a venue for regional harmony by inviting residents from all walks of life and hometown friends.
In his inaugural address, Governor Kim expressed gratitude for the support and encouragement of the Jangheung residents and stated, "I will make Jangheung the most desirable and beautiful place to live in the country."
He continued, "I want to create a Jangheung that changes, develops, and creates, where residents are happy and prosperous, and pass it on to future generations."
In particular, he pledged to complete the unfinished project of making Jangheung a "mother's embrace-like Jangheung" during the 8th term.
To this end, he presented a broad framework for county administration, including becoming a hub for history, culture, tourism, and sports industries; strengthening competitiveness in agriculture, fisheries, livestock, and forestry industries; increasing farmers' and fishermen's income; and restoring the population to 40,000 through job creation.
Governor Kim emphasized, "I will make 2023 the first year of the renaissance of history, culture, arts, and tourism, turning Jangheung into a premium tourist and leisure destination."
Specific strategies include establishing the An Jung-geun Shrine as a historical, educational, and experiential site; restoring Hoeryeongjin Fortress; creating a cultural and artistic complex space at the former Jangheung Prison; renovating the Jeongnamjin Tower into a unification prayer tower; and completing the world's only "Mother Theme Park."
To increase farmers' and fishermen's income, he proposed solutions such as product-specific collectivization, sixth industrialization, expansion of eco-friendly agriculture, and revitalization of the Deukryang Bay clean tidal flat ecological industrial special zone.
Governor Kim also expressed concern over the steep population decline and pledged to focus all efforts on restoring the population to 40,000 by securing jobs through improved industrial complex sales rates and establishing a regional foundation that attracts young people back.
Additionally, he promised to raise the happiness level of residents through welfare realization for coexistence and to implement responsible and service-oriented administration that provides trust and inspiration to the residents.
Governor Kim said, "I will dispel the image of marginalization and backwardness and strive to realize a 'long-lasting prosperous Jangheung,'” adding, “Through the miracle of the Tamjin River, I will rewrite the history of Jangheung's revival, prosperity, and hope."
