[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] The 8th term of Jangseong County, with the administrative goal of ‘Harmony and Change! A Happy Jangseong for the Residents,’ officially launched on the 1st.
The 40th newly appointed Kim Hanjong, Jangseong County Governor, and county officials began their schedule by paying respects at the Baekbi monument dedicated to Park Suryang.
The Baekbi is a stele bestowed by King Myeongjong during the Joseon Dynasty to honor Park Suryang of Agok, a model of integrity. It is called ‘Baekbi’ (White Monument) because no inscription was engraved on it so as not to tarnish Agok’s honesty.
Upon arriving at the Jangseong County Office, Governor Kim Hanjong performed a deep bow before entering the building, symbolizing his commitment to serve the residents. He then signed the handover document, officially marking the start of the 8th term.
The first administrative task was the approval of the ‘2nd supplementary budget plan.’ This includes ▲a 300,000 KRW daily life recovery support fund for all residents ▲a 200,000 KRW COVID-19 relief fund for small business owners ▲expansion of days and allowances for senior citizen jobs, interpreted as a move to accelerate the fulfillment of campaign promises aimed at stabilizing people’s livelihoods.
Following this, Governor Kim planted a Japanese pagoda tree in front of the county office to commemorate the launch of the 8th term, then attended the inauguration ceremony held at the Jangseong Culture and Arts Center’s grand performance hall.
In his inaugural speech, Governor Kim Hanjong said, “I sincerely thank the residents who have given me the opportunity to work for the development of my hometown, Jangseong. I will operate the county administration by embracing diverse voices from the region so that all residents can unite and move toward the same goal.”
He added, “I will devote everything to opening a new era where true local autonomy prevails and the people of Jangseong are the owners.”
Governor Kim Hanjong is a three-term former provincial council member and the first in Jangseong to serve as chairman of the provincial council and the chairman of the Korea Association of Provincial Councils. During his tenure, he led the revision of the Local Autonomy Act to expand residents’ rights, earning recognition for realizing the ‘Jangseong-style resident autonomy.’
The administrative direction for the 8th term of Jangseong County is ▲communicative and harmonious administration ▲cultured tourism with dignity ▲leading first-class agriculture ▲hope-giving lifelong welfare ▲and a vibrant local economy.
Jangseong County plans to build a clean and transparent Jangseong based on principles and fundamentals through integration, communication, and cooperation.
It will enhance the value of tourist resources such as the UNESCO World Heritage Pilamsuwon Confucian Academy, Baekyangsa Temple, Chukryeongsan Mountain, Hwangryong River, Jangseong Lake, and Namchang Valley, and attract the National Southern Food Promotion Institute to usher in the ‘Jangseong Tourism Era of Ten Million Visitors.’
Along with the stable establishment of the National Subtropical Crop Demonstration Center, the county will create a large-scale botanical garden, develop a lawn-specialized park, and promote smart agricultural technologies to transform rural areas into lands of new challenges and opportunities.
It will continue customized welfare that embraces all residents and focus on discovering welfare policies that residents can feel changing their lives. Support will be provided for tuition and housing costs for university students in Jangseong, and entrance congratulatory money will be given to new students in elementary, middle, and high schools.
The local economy, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19, will be transformed into a place where small business owners thrive and companies find it favorable to operate. Efforts will be made to expedite the establishment of the National Cardiovascular Research Institute, develop new local industrial complexes behind the Bitgreen Industrial Complex, and attract semiconductor-specialized complexes to achieve a major economic transformation in Jangseong.
