2 Days Ago at Jeonju Gyeoksasa Pungpaejigwan Special Stage... Presenting Traditional and Popular Music Including 'Nanbonga'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] ‘Aksel Band,’ gaining attention by presenting creative music that combines traditional Korean music (gugak) and popular music, will hold a weekend musical feast with a ‘Joseon Pop’ performance that fuses traditional melodies with popular music in Jeonju, the hometown of sound.
Aksel Band, which received enthusiastic applause from the audience at their Gwangju performance last month, will meet music fans at the ‘2022 Jeonju Joseon Pop Regular Performance’ held at the special stage of Pungpaejigwan, Jeonju Gyeoksa, at 7 p.m. on the 2nd.
Since launching full-scale activities last year, Aksel Band consists of seven members playing pansori, daegeum, piri, bass, guitar, synthesizer, and drums.
They are attracting attention as a new gugak creative group that combines gugak with other genres such as classical, jazz, popular songs, and world music.
In this performance, they will present newly interpreted traditional gugak melodies with a youthful sensibility, including ‘Binarri,’ original compositions like ‘Nanbongga,’ ‘SAVAGE’ themed on Ppaengdeok Eomeom, ‘Simcheongga and Nocturne’ based on Simcheongga, and ‘Eosachuldo’ and ‘Sarangga’ from Chunhyangjeon.
Founded last year, the name ‘Aksel’ in Aksel Band means ‘to accelerate’ and is also written as ‘樂sell,’ implying people who bring joy.
The band is also working hard on album and content production to promote the charm of gugak domestically and internationally through performance and creation.
Meanwhile, the stage will also feature performances by ‘Salon de Gugak Seonyulmori’ and ‘Lee Heejeong Band.’ Hosted by Jeonju City, the ‘2022 Jeonju Joseon Pop Regular Performance,’ held outdoors as street performances from June to July, will take place around Pungpaejigwan (Jeonju Gyeoksa) and the Gijije Waterfront Park area.
