45%, Down 4%p from Previous Week
Growing Support for Elderly Standard at 70 and Retirement Age Extension to 65

According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) announced on the 30th by four polling agencies?Embrain Public, K-Stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research?the percentage of respondents who said President Yoon is managing state affairs well (very well + well) was 45%, while negative evaluations saying he is doing poorly (very poorly + poorly) recorded 37%.


According to the NBS survey conducted biweekly, President Yoon's approval rating has fallen for three consecutive times since recording 54% in the first week of June. Compared to the previous survey, the percentage of those who think he is doing well dropped by 4 percentage points, while those who think he is doing poorly increased by 5 percentage points.


Among those who responded positively, when asked the reason for their favorable evaluation of state management, "because he is decisive" was the highest at 32%. This was followed by "because he communicates well with the people" at 19%, "because he is fair and just" at 18%, "because he fulfills promised pledges well" at 13%, "because he is competent and rational" at 7%, and "because he is unifying and inclusive" at 6%.


Among those who responded negatively, the top reason for thinking he is doing poorly was "because he is autocratic and one-sided" at 34%. This was followed by "because he appointed unsuitable figures to the cabinet" at 20%, "because of lack of experience and ability" at 20%, "because of lack of policy vision" at 11%, "because of insufficient efforts for unity and cooperation" at 6%, and "because he does not fulfill promised pledges" at 4%.


Regarding the proposal to raise the age criterion for elderly benefits such as basic pension receipt and free subway rides from the current age of 65 to 70, the survey showed 62% in favor and 34% opposed. On the proposal to extend the current retirement age from 60 to 65, 84% supported it while 13% opposed.


This survey was conducted via telephone interviews from the 27th to the 29th with 1,002 adults aged 18 and over nationwide. The sampling error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
