[Seoul District News] Seongdong-gu to Fully Operate Multipurpose Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Fitness Center, Rooftop Outdoor Futsal Field from July; Enhances Care Functions with Daycare Centers and Elementary After-School Care Centers, Improves Resident Convenience with Shuttle Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is opening the ‘Seoul Complex Culture and Sports Center’ in Seongsu-dong, which will become another mecca of the area.
The Seoul Forest Complex Culture and Sports Center (hereinafter the Center), built on Ttukseom Retention Basin (around 685-63, Seongsu-dong 1-ga), which functions to retain rainwater during heavy rains, will offer various sports and cultural programs including athletics and culture, and will begin full operation starting in July.
The Center boasts an unobstructed panoramic view in all directions and is a four-story building with a total floor area of 5,589㎡. It includes a multipurpose gymnasium, swimming pool, fitness center, rooftop outdoor futsal field, and a bowling alley.
The fitness center, where you can enjoy sunlight flooding through large windows and train your body with about 10 types of exercise equipment including treadmills, features the first public bowling alley in Seongdong-gu’s sports facilities, with a spacious 8 lanes that anyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy.
Programs such as yoga and Pilates are available, along with a music room equipped with drums and keyboards, a studio for producing YouTube videos, and small meeting rooms, all of which will be fully operational.
The swimming pool facility, located above ground with abundant natural light and views through large windows, is comparable to those in luxury hotels. Thoughtful considerations include ramps and entry wheelchairs to assist disabled and elderly users in entering the pool comfortably.
The multipurpose gymnasium supports sports such as basketball, badminton, kendo, and indoor inline skating. There is also a 392.2㎡ outdoor futsal field with dedicated turf where visitors can run freely. Additionally, a daycare center and an elementary after-school care center called ‘Ikkumnuriter’ are located on the first and second floors, adding childcare functions.
Upon entering the building, visitors will find ‘Chaekmaru,’ Seongdong-gu’s representative open library that combines books and relaxation. From the first to the third floor, one wall is filled with books, and visitors can enjoy leisure time at ‘Cafe Seoul Forest,’ operated by seniors and women with career experience.
Located near Ttukseom Station on Line 2, the Center is easily accessible. Earlier, a 334-space public parking lot at Ttukseom Retention Basin was opened (March 2022), and shuttle buses operate in the nearby area, further enhancing convenience for residents.
With a total project cost of 30.5 billion KRW, the Center is a representative living SOC (Social Overhead Capital, facilities that enhance residents’ convenience in daily life such as childcare, culture, welfare, and sports) facility in Seongdong-gu. After 18 months of construction, the opening ceremony was held on the 28th.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Going forward, the Seoul Forest Complex Culture and Sports Center will establish itself as a landmark facility for sports, culture, and welfare that can be enjoyed in daily life. We will do our best to operate various programs so that it becomes a famous spot in Seoul that anyone can conveniently use.”
