[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The transition committee for the 8th term Seodaemun District Mayor (Chairman Jin Hee-seon, former Deputy Mayor of Seoul Administration) concluded about three weeks of activities and held a results briefing session on the morning of the 29th at the district office’s 3rd-floor main conference room.
The chairperson of the transition committee was Jin Hee-seon, a special professor in the Department of Urban Engineering at Yonsei University (former Deputy Mayor of Seoul Administration), and the committee operated five innovation divisions: Economy, Education & Culture, Life Care & Welfare, New Development, and Environment & Transportation.
Fifteen experts from various fields served as transition committee members, and over 50 knowledgeable and experienced professionals participated as advisory members.
Hwang Chun-ha, the secretary of the transition committee who delivered the report, introduced that the committee encapsulated the new vision and goals of the 8th term Seodaemun District under the catchphrase “100% Happiness Seodaemun! Young Economy · Proper Administration · Rapid Growth, Right Seodaemun!”
At the briefing session, the transition committee proposed the early implementation of “Full vehicle traffic allowance on Sinchon Yonsero and traffic innovation measures” for the 8th term.
Specifically, they suggested ▲ full opening of Yonsero by the end of this year through consultations with the National Police Agency and Seoul City ▲ active promotion of solutions to habitual traffic congestion areas within the district ▲ early commencement of the Gangbuk Transverse Line and Western Line light rail transit and establishment of Ganhodae Station (Gangbuk Transverse Line).
Additionally, the committee recommended the rapid promotion of redevelopment and reconstruction within the district through Seoul City’s New Tong Planning and the creation of a landmark in the northwestern Seoul area around the Yujin Shopping District.
Furthermore, to realize “Lifelong Companion Welfare Seodaemun,” they proposed a one-stop customized welfare service for all life stages and detailed life care service plans by region.
The committee particularly proposed pursuing the relocation of the military base in Cheonyeon-dong, followed by the establishment of new schools, the creation of the Seodaemun University Alliance Semiconductor Bio Research Complex (SUPER BASE), construction of a youth hostel, and the establishment of a nationwide Independence Gate tourism tour system.

Moreover, to create a new university street connecting nine universities in the area, the committee emphasized the need to establish youth startup and entrepreneurship support centers and support cultural and artistic spaces.
Chairperson Jin Hee-seon said, “I am grateful that during the operation period of the transition committee, the members actively engaged as if they themselves were the district mayor. I hope that the policy proposals of the transition committee will proceed through project implementation and lead to the development of Seodaemun and the happiness of its residents.”
Seodaemun District Mayor-elect Lee Seong-heon expressed gratitude to the transition committee and stated, “Based on this results report reflecting the policy direction and tone of the 8th term district administration, I will devote all efforts to rapidly advancing regional development.” He also added, “It is regrettable that the transition committee’s operation period was short,” and requested, “I ask the transition committee members to continuously participate in Seodaemun district administration over the next four years by joining the nine task forces (TF) that will undertake major policy tasks of the 8th term, contributing their professional insights.”
