[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Daegu Catholic University will establish a 'Semiconductor University' for the 2023 academic year.

In line with the new government's semiconductor industry investment and workforce development support plans, it will operate on a 3-year, 8-semester system.

Under the Semiconductor University, the departments of 'Semiconductor Electronic Engineering,' 'AI Automation Robotics,' and 'Semiconductor Process' will be organized.

The curriculum is planned to cover the entire semiconductor development process, including design, processing, packaging, testing, and equipment.

To respond swiftly to the rapidly changing semiconductor market situation, the academic system will operate with 2 semesters in the first year and 3 semesters each in the following 2 years, totaling a 3-year, 8-semester system.

Following the 'Justino Freedom University,' an online course-focused college established this year, the Semiconductor University will also operate on a 3-year, 8-semester system, leading innovation in the academic system.

To deploy skilled professionals early into the industry, the university plans to encourage the influx of current students from related departments through academic transfer and general transfer admission systems.

To operate semiconductor education, the university will actively utilize not only the on-campus laboratories and practice rooms but also the infrastructure of the 'Industry-Academia Convergence Robotics Campus' being established in the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District.

Woo Dong-gi, President of Daegu Catholic University, said, "We will focus our educational capabilities so that our university can establish itself as a mecca for semiconductor talent development," adding, "We will do our best to nurture new talents required by the new era in the right place at the right time."
