Yun Byeong-tae, Mayor-elect of Naju, Takes Aggressive Steps to Secure National Budget

[Asia Economy] Yoon Byung-tae, the elected mayor of Naju City for the 8th term of local government, is drawing attention with his extensive efforts to secure national treasury budgets for key local projects ahead of his inauguration.

Nicknamed the "Super Officer" during his tenure at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance for his expertise in budget and economic fields while navigating between central and local governments, Mayor-elect Yoon is fully committed to securing national funds by leveraging his broad experience and personal network within central government ministries even before taking office.

The Naju City Mayor Transition Committee announced on the 29th that Mayor-elect Yoon met with key government budget officials including Choi Sang-dae, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Kim Wan-seop, Director of the Budget Office, and Ko Kwang-hyo, Director of the Taxation Office, at the Government Complex Sejong to request national funding support for major local issues and campaign pledges for the 8th term of local government.

At the meeting, Yoon explained the challenging financial conditions of the city and emphasized the need for administrative and financial support from central government ministries to establish a foundation for revitalizing the energy new industry, a national future industry.

In particular, he requested active cooperation to attract national large-scale research facilities linked with Korea Energy Polytechnic University, such as the designation of the Energy National Industrial Complex, which is currently undergoing a preliminary feasibility study, and the Ultra-High Power Laser Center, to Naju.

Yoon said, "Due to the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis, the domestic and international economic situation is becoming increasingly difficult, intensifying the competition among regions to secure national funds. I will make every effort to ensure that national budget projects for the happiness of citizens are finally reflected in the government budget by frequently visiting central ministries, party leaderships, and the National Assembly in line with the Ministry of Strategy and Finance’s government budget review period."
