UNIST Hosts 'Smart Healthcare International Symposium'

UNIST Hosts 'Smart Healthcare International Symposium' Smart Healthcare International Symposium Poster.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] UNIST held the "International Symposium on Smart Healthcare" on the 29th from 3 PM at Haedong Hall on the 2nd floor of the 4th Engineering Building.

Smart healthcare is a concept that integrates ICT technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and the Internet of Things with the medical industry.

It focuses not only on traditional treatment or hospital-centered medical services but also on providing personalized health management services. It is a medical technology that places more emphasis on "prevention" rather than treatment, and on the "consumer" rather than the hospital.

UNIST prepared this symposium to promote international cooperation with companies, hospitals, and research institutes in the field of future-oriented medical technology, smart healthcare.

The goal was to find new methods for producing and managing medical data through domestic and international collaboration. Researchers from six institutions in the United States and Korea attended the event.

From the United States, the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) Medical Center and UIUC (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) introduced cases of operating smart healthcare-related systems and discussed big data processing and prospects.

In Korea, Asan Medical Center, Yonsei University Severance Hospital, Naver, and LG Uplus shared ideas and cases applying digital technology to the bio and medical fields.

Jung Woong-kyu, head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UNIST and organizer of the symposium, said, "In next-generation medical services, prevention, treatment, and management of diseases will be conducted on new platforms."

He added, "Since standards or protocols related to smart healthcare have not yet been established, in-depth consideration of medical data and the formation of networks for international collaboration are very important."

President Lee Yong-hoon said, "ICT-based smart healthcare technology is a field that UNIST is focusing on," and added, "Starting with the international symposium, we hope to build an excellent network and use it to lead the world in the smart healthcare field."
