[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 29th that it selected six public officials who resolved residents' inconveniences through proactive administration and contributed to the development of the local community as the ‘Outstanding Proactive Public Officials for the First Half of 2022.’
These officials worked for over six months from October last year to the end of April this year, carrying out various tasks including regulatory and customary improvements, innovation, collaboration, and conflict resolution. They contributed to achieving results such as resolving long-standing projects and building infrastructure for socially vulnerable groups through proactive administration from the residents' perspective.
The top outstanding proactive public official for the first half of the year is Kim Jong-tae, a senior official working in the Urban Planning Division.
He conducted persistent negotiations with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and landowners to relocate a high-voltage transmission tower inside the multipurpose gymnasium, a long-unresolved issue for 12 years. By signing a win-win agreement among Nam-gu Office, KEPCO, and the landowners, he greatly contributed to improving the residential environment by securing the health rights and views of apartment residents living around the multipurpose gymnasium.
Im Yong-gyu, a senior official in the Autonomous Administration Division, and Im So-hwa, a senior official in the Urban Regeneration Division, were selected as outstanding public officials for their respective contributions to the construction of the Bandabi Sports Center and the Baegun Square Media Wall project.
During the construction of the Bandabi Sports Center, Im Yong-gyu discovered an underground bedrock layer and changed the facility location and construction section, resulting in a shortened construction period and a cost saving of 10 billion KRW in additional construction expenses.
Im So-hwa was recognized for persuading the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Gwangju City to secure 5 billion KRW in special grants and subsidies to revitalize the old downtown area around Baegun Square, and for promoting the media wall project that can continuously display immersive content such as the 3D Mudeungsan Tiger.
In addition, three officials were selected as proactive administration encouragement public officials.
Kim Hyun-woo, a senior official in the Environment and Ecology Division, achieved a 90% cost reduction effect when installing 3kW solar panels on houses through the energy self-sufficient city creation project. Hong Yeon-hwa, a senior official in the Women and Family Division, contributed to creating a shelter to provide independence opportunities for victims of sexual violence with disabilities.
Also, Jeon Jae-hee, a senior official in the Resident Autonomy Division, was honored as an encouragement public official for contributing to the spread of sharing culture through achievements such as Nam-gu’s selection as a comprehensive excellent institution in the 2021 Public Resource Open Sharing Service Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the establishment of the 1549 Daechon Sympathy Center, and the operation of Nam-gu Shared School.
