[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] It is now possible to check and claim dormant deposits through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's national secretary notification service, 'Guppi.'
On the 29th, the Korea Inclusive Finance Agency announced that it will check the status of dormant deposits for 730,000 first-time applicants among Guppi users. If there are dormant deposits, notification messages will be sent sequentially starting at the end of this month.
The national secretary notification service is an online personal assistant service that delivers necessary personalized administrative information to citizens through private mobile applications. Currently, 14.85 million people are using the service.
If the dormant deposit is 10 million KRW or less, it can be claimed without visiting a branch by using the Korea Inclusive Finance Agency's mobile app or websites such as 'Dormant Deposit Finder,' 'Account Info,' or 'Government24.' If online use is difficult, payment applications can be made through the Korea Inclusive Finance Call Center on weekdays from 9 AM to 6 PM.
Meanwhile, since 2020, the Korea Inclusive Finance Agency has been providing guidance on how to check and claim dormant deposits via mail. This year, about 340,000 people hold dormant deposits between 50,000 KRW and 100,000 KRW.
Director Lee Jae-yeon stated, "We are promoting the expansion of dormant deposit payments by linking various platforms and dormant deposit payment services."
