Employee Embezzling Over 1.3 Billion Won from Camera Company Sent to Prosecution

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] An employee of a small and medium-sized photography equipment company was caught embezzling camera products worth approximately 1.3 billion KRW over several years.

On the 29th, the Guro Police Station in Seoul announced that they had sent Mr. A, a man in his 30s who worked at a photography equipment wholesale business in Jung-gu, Seoul, to the prosecution on charges of embezzlement.

Mr. A is suspected of embezzling a total of over 1.3 billion KRW in 258 instances from 2016 until the end of last year.

While working as a staff member at the head office store, he committed the crime by selling company products such as cameras and parts to third parties without recording these transactions in the computer system.

The company became aware of the embezzlement through sales computer data and filed a complaint with the police against Mr. A in January, which led to the end of the crime.

During the police investigation, Mr. A stated that he used the embezzled funds for living expenses, and it is reported that compensation for the embezzled amount is difficult.

The police investigated whether there were any accomplices given the large scale and long duration of the embezzlement, but concluded that Mr. A acted alone and sent the case to the prosecution on the 17th.
