[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) jointly called on North Korea to resume dialogue for complete denuclearization, mentioning North Korea's nuclear tests in their joint statement.
On the 28th (local time), the G7 leaders, after concluding their three-day summit at Elmau Castle in Bavaria, Germany, stated in their joint declaration, "We strongly condemn North Korea's continuous and illegal ballistic missile test launches, including intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) on March 24 and May 25."
Through the statement, the leaders demanded that North Korea fully, verifiably, and irreversibly abandon its illegal weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions. They also called on all countries to fully and effectively implement UN Security Council resolutions against North Korea and to be vigilant against evasion of sanctions.
The G7 leaders urged North Korea to engage in diplomacy and resume talks for complete denuclearization. They reaffirmed the position that North Korea urgently needs to improve its humanitarian and human rights situation. Additionally, they called on North Korea to effectively address the COVID-19 situation, allow access to international humanitarian organizations, and immediately resolve the abduction issue.
