[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A man in his 40s who attempted to rob money from a financial institution to repay debt incurred from being scammed but fled after failing was caught by the police eight days after his escape.

The Namyangju Northern Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 28th, "We arrested A (43) on charges of attempted robbery causing injury and attempted robbery."

A is accused of entering the Saemaeul Geumgo branch in Toegyewon-eup, Namyangju-si, around 4 p.m. on the 20th, threatening employees with a gas sprayer and a weapon, demanding money, injuring resisting employees, and then fleeing.

During the crime, A sprayed gas at two female employees and one male employee of the financial institution, causing eye injuries.

According to the police investigation, A, who has a criminal record including theft, committed the crime after accumulating a large debt due to being scammed while running a business.

A was arrested around 5:40 p.m. that day at an acquaintance's house in Dasan-dong, Namyangju-si, and confessed to the entire crime during police questioning.

At the time of the crime, A wore a mask and helmet, and showed meticulousness by changing clothes he had previously hidden in a warehouse restroom where he had worked in the past during his escape.

Additionally, it was revealed that he avoided police pursuit by riding a bicycle instead of using public transportation while on the run.

The police are investigating A regarding the details of the crime, his escape route, and whether there were any accomplices.
