[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is scheduled to visit South Korea for two days starting on the 19th of next month, the U.S. Treasury Department announced. Secretary Yellen will visit Indo-Pacific countries for the first time since taking office, including South Korea, Japan, and Indonesia.

On the 28th (local time), the U.S. Treasury Department stated in a press release, "Secretary Yellen will consecutively visit Japan, Indonesia, and South Korea from the 12th of next month." Secretary Yellen will stay in Tokyo, Japan from the 12th to the 13th, attend the G20 Finance Ministers' Meeting held in Bali, Indonesia on the 15th and 16th, and arrive in Seoul on the 19th, according to the U.S. Treasury Department.

This will be Secretary Yellen's first visit to the Indo-Pacific region since taking office in January last year. During her visit to South Korea, she is expected to discuss measures to address inflation, which has been exacerbated by the Russia-Ukraine war and supply chain disruptions, as well as economic cooperation through the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and follow-up discussions on digital taxation.
