[Tomorrow's Weather] Heavy Rain Across the Country... Up to 50mm per Hour in the Seoul Metropolitan Area and Others

[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] On the 29th and 30th, heavy monsoon rain will continue nationwide.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) forecasted that from dawn to daytime on the 29th, hourly rainfall of over 50mm is expected mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area and central to northern Gangwon Yeongseo region.

From the morning of the 29th to dawn of the 30th, the main rain areas will be the southern Gangwon Yeongseo, Chungcheong, northwestern Jeonbuk, and northern inland Gyeongbuk regions. Afterward, from dawn on the 30th, rain is expected again mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, and central Chungcheong regions.

Heavy rain advisory warnings have been issued for the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, and central Chungcheong. From the 28th to the 30th, precipitation is expected to be 100 to 200mm in the Seoul metropolitan area, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, Chungnam, central Chungbuk, and northern Chungbuk. In places with heavy rain in the Seoul metropolitan area and inland and mountainous Gangwon, rainfall may exceed 300mm. Southern Chungbuk, Jeonbuk, northern inland Gyeongbuk, and the West Sea 5 islands will receive 50 to 100mm of rain. Northwestern Jeonbuk and northern inland Gyeongbuk may see rainfall exceeding 150mm in some areas.

Other expected precipitation amounts are 30 to 80mm in the Gangwon East Coast, western Jeonnam, and Jeju mountainous areas; 10 to 60mm in eastern Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk (excluding northern inland), Gyeongnam, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo; and 5 to 20mm in Jeju (excluding mountainous areas). Since the rain cloud band causing this rain is narrow, there will be significant differences in rainfall amounts between regions.

In areas where rain continues until the 30th, very strong gusts with instantaneous wind speeds around 70 km/h, thunder, and lightning may occur, so precautions are necessary. On the 29th, the morning low temperature is expected to be 22 to 27 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high temperature will be 25 to 33 degrees Celsius, hotter than usual for this time of year.

Expected minimum and maximum temperatures in major cities are Seoul 25°C/27°C, Incheon 24°C/27°C, Daejeon 26°C/30°C, Gwangju 25°C/29°C, Daegu 25°C/32°C, Ulsan 25°C/31°C, and Busan 23°C/26°C.

Strong wind advisories have been issued for Seoul, Incheon, western Gyeonggi, western Chungnam, coastal Jeolla, coastal Gyeongnam, and Jeju mountainous areas, where strong winds of 35 to 60 km/h are expected until the morning of the 29th. Similar winds will continue until dawn on the 30th in the Gangwon East Coast and Gangwon mountainous areas. Other regions may also experience instantaneous wind speeds exceeding 55 km/h until the morning of the 29th.
