[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] An accident involving a vehicle getting stuck occurred in the mudflats of Seonjaedo, Ongjin-gun, Incheon, known as a so-called 'camping sanctuary.' This is the third incident this month.

According to the Incheon Fire Headquarters, at around 6:24 a.m. on the 28th, a 119 emergency call was received reporting that a passenger car was stuck in the mudflats of Seonjae-ri, Yeongheung-myeon, Ongjin-gun, Incheon.

At the time, there were no occupants in the vehicle, and the car's wheels were stuck in the mudflats.

The fire authorities received a follow-up report at around 10:26 a.m. that day and, in cooperation with the Coast Guard, towed the vehicle out.

This mudflat is located at the gateway from Seonjaedo to Cheukdo, where there is a road called Seonjaero 95-gil running through the middle of the mudflat. The road is 4 meters wide and 500 meters long, serving as the only route connecting Seonjaedo and Cheukdo. At high tide, the road is submerged under seawater, and vehicles can only pass when the tide recedes.

Recently, there have been three flooding accidents on this road just this month, with repeated incidents of vehicles getting stuck in the mudflats. On the 6th, a driver and passenger in an electric vehicle EV6 were stranded in the middle of the mudflat and were rescued, and on the 13th, an image of a luxury SUV, a Land Rover Defender, stuck in the mudflat was shared on an online community.

Such accidents frequently occur at the end of the right side of the road located in the middle of the road. Some speculate that drivers mistakenly believe the road continues and proceed along it, only to get stuck in the mudflats while trying to turn their vehicles.

Meanwhile, Ongjin-gun plans to install caution signs next to the entrance of this road to prevent recurrence of such accidents.
