[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Northern Fire Station announced on the 28th that it conducted fire safety education for the elderly by visiting senior centers.
Recently, record-breaking heatwaves and damages have occurred worldwide, and a heatwave advisory for our region was issued about two weeks earlier than last year, making special caution necessary regarding heat-related illnesses during the summer season.
Accordingly, the education held at the senior centers focused on preventing heat-related illnesses among the elderly and improving their ability to respond in the early stages.
Additionally, for elderly individuals who are at risk of airway obstruction due to food, the Heimlich maneuver, an emergency treatment method for breathing difficulties caused by airway obstruction, was also practiced.
Joo Sun-mi, Head of the 119 Disaster Response Division, said, “We will do our best to ensure that the elderly can spend this summer safely and healthily through fire safety education tailored to their level.”
