[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City will launch a special monitoring and crackdown on environmental pollution activities during the summer season.
The city announced on the 28th that it will conduct a "Special Monitoring and Crackdown on Environmental Pollution Activities during the Summer Season" to prevent illegal activities such as unauthorized discharge of pollutants that occur during heavy rainfall.
The special monitoring and crackdown will be carried out from the 29th of this month to August 31st, targeting facilities with significant water pollution impact that discharge pollutants into public water bodies without authorization, including wastewater discharge businesses, entrusted wastewater treatment businesses, and livestock manure discharge facilities.
The city will jointly promote and educate about the special monitoring and crackdown with the environmental departments of the five autonomous districts from this month to early next month. Then, from next month through August, it will strengthen intensive monitoring, crackdowns, and patrols, and in August, plans to provide facility restoration and technical support.
In particular, considering that during the rainy and holiday seasons there is a high risk of wastewater and waste stored or abandoned within business sites flowing into rivers along with rainwater, and that intentional unauthorized discharge and other environmental violations increase during this period, the city plans to focus all efforts on preventing illegal activities by intensifying monitoring and patrols.
Additionally, for businesses found violating environmental pollution regulations, the city will impose special management and strong administrative measures, and for small businesses requiring technical support, environmental technology assistance will be provided to encourage proper operation of discharge and prevention facilities.
Jeon Jae-hyun, Director of the Environmental Greenery Bureau of the city, said, “We will do our best to prevent environmental pollution by strengthening surveillance of illegal activities that take advantage of difficulties in enforcement during vulnerable periods.”
