[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The new Philippine government is pushing to open a new route connecting to Vladivostok in Russia's Far East.
Igor Baylen, the Philippine Ambassador to Russia, recently stated in an interview with RIA Novosti, "Our government is working to establish a maritime trade route linking Mindanao Island in southern Philippines and Vladivostok."
He added, "Philippine exporters have faced logistical issues such as container transport delays due to Western sanctions following the Ukraine crisis. However, we believe this situation will lead to the development of alternative routes, such as the route leading to the port of Vladivostok."
He also said, "We remain friendly countries and can continue trade relations. The opening of a new route is necessary for exporters and importers of both countries."
Ambassador Baylen revealed that the project to open a maritime corridor connecting Mindanao Island and Vladivostok is one of the tasks for the new government to be established with the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos on the 30th.
He emphasized, "Russia is also an Asian country, and the development of Russia's Far East region is very important. We will also assist in this."
The Philippines is also scheduled to attend the 7th Eastern Economic Forum, held from September 5 to 8 at the Far Eastern Federal University on Russky Island in Vladivostok.
