[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party's Livelihood Priority Practice Group held a meeting on the 27th to discuss measures to recover accumulated damages during the COVID-19 pandemic, including establishing alternatives and addressing livelihood issues.
At the 'COVID-19 Damage Support Blind Spot Field Organization Meeting' held at the National Assembly that day, Democratic Party lawmakers belonging to the Livelihood Priority Practice Group, the National Franchisee Association, the Korea Small Travel Agency Solidarity, the National Hof Association, and the Small Business Federation excluded from the loss compensation fund participated.
Park Hong-geun, the Democratic Party floor leader, said, "Many self-employed and small business owners are raising concerns about the fairness of the loss compensation fund payment criteria," and pointed out, "The government's current loss compensation fund payment based on sales decline is a result of armchair theorizing that ignores the small business field."
He added, "The Livelihood Priority Practice Group's COVID-19 Damage Support Team is continuously listening to the field to prepare effective measures," and said, "We will organize the opinions given today and urge the government."
Lee Hak-young, head of the COVID-19 Damage Support Team, said, "Small business owners will face another crisis not only due to the prolonged COVID-19 damage but also because of high inflation and high interest rates," and added, "The Democratic Party will continuously identify and strive to resolve various problems faced by small business owners along with COVID-19 damage."
Co-secretary Lee Dong-ju said, "During the pandemic, the Yoon Seok-yeol government caused blind spots in supporting small business owners and self-employed people who suffered huge business losses," and emphasized, "Based on the opinions of small business owners and self-employed people excluded from the loss compensation fund payment and suffering, we will devise effective support policies for livelihood recovery."
