[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Inha University announced on the 27th that the Advanced Materials Laboratory, led by Professor Wi Jeongjae of the Department of Polymer Engineering, has been selected as an LG Electronics Target Lab.
Over the past five years, the Advanced Materials Laboratory has formed a practical problem research team (I-GPS) with LG Electronics and actively engaged in industry-academia cooperation based on the analysis of eco-friendly polymer composites manufacturing through extrusion and injection molding and their structure-property relationships.
With this Target Lab selection, more in-depth research on new eco-friendly composite materials is planned.
LG Electronics selects university laboratories conducting research closely related to the products under development as Target Labs. Students belonging to the selected Target Labs are given priority in the selection of industry-academia scholarship recipients and, if they wish to join LG Electronics, can apply for recommendation and special recruitment processes after obtaining their degrees.
The Advanced Materials Laboratory has published papers in international journals such as Nature Communications and Materials Today through advanced materials research including the development of soft robots, shape-variable devices, and energy materials using sulfur, a petrochemical byproduct. They have also carried out projects funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea and international research projects with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory.
Additionally, they have undertaken research projects required by industries such as LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor Company, and Lotte Chemical.
Professor Wi Jeongjae of the Department of Polymer Engineering said, "We are pleased that the excellence of Inha University polymer engineering students has been recognized by LG Electronics," adding, "We will continue to strive to nurture outstanding engineering talents by conducting research that meets industry needs, not just research that ends with publications."
