[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] The Russian military launched missile attacks on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, for two consecutive days ahead of the Group of Seven (G7) summit.

According to major foreign media on the 26th, the Russian military carried out missile bombings on northern cities including Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy, as well as western cities such as Lviv, from the 25th to the 26th. This marks the first missile attack on downtown Kyiv in three weeks.

In the early hours of the day, the Russian military fired about 10 missiles at Kyiv, damaging a nine-story apartment building and a kindergarten in the central Shevchenko district. Local police reported that one person was killed and at least five were injured due to the Kyiv bombing.

The G7 held a summit at Schloss Elmau in Bavaria, Germany, with U.S. President Joe Biden in attendance. President Biden, attending the G7 summit, described the Russian missile attacks on Kyiv as barbaric and criticized them.

Vitalii Klychko, mayor of Kyiv, stated, "The Russian military's bombing of Kyiv after three weeks is intended to threaten Ukrainians ahead of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit."
