[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwi-yeol] Gyeongbuk Province held the "10th Gyeongbuk Forest Interpretation Contest" on the 24th at the Millennium Forest in the New City of the Provincial Office, hosted by the Gyeongbuk Forest Interpreters Association.
About 300 people attended the event, including Kang Seong-jo, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, local forest interpreters, early childhood forest instructors, and forestry-related officials.
Marking its 10th anniversary this year, the contest was organized to strengthen the capabilities of forest interpreters and early childhood forest instructors through information exchange, in response to the growing social interest and demand for the benefits provided by forests, and to lead proper forest education and forest culture.
Under the slogan "Harmony (林), Patience (林), Consideration (林)," the event featured ▲ forest interpretation and early childhood forest education competitions ▲ an exhibition of carbon-neutral works using nature such as photos of the four seasons in the forest, trees, grass, and flowers ▲ expert lectures ▲ experience booths and traditional game experiences.
The event was streamed live via the social media (YouTube) channel to enable communication among forestry education experts nationwide beyond Gyeongbuk.
In the forest interpretation and early childhood forest education competition categories, five teams that passed the preliminary round gave passionate demonstrations at the event venue. Based on evaluations by professional judges, one participant in each category was awarded the Grand Prize (Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do Award), Gold Prize (Southern Regional Forest Service Chief Award), and Silver Prize (Gyeongbuk Forest Interpreters Association President Award).
In addition to the contest, various experience booths such as forest playgrounds and crafts using natural materials were operated for all participants to enjoy.
Crafts made from natural materials and photos capturing forests and the four seasons were exhibited, providing abundant enjoyment and sharing precious moments of communion with the forest.
Professor Park Byung-kwon, famous as the Raccoon Doctor, gave a special lecture titled "Humanities with the Forest," offering a time to discover the humanistic values in our lives living together with the forest.
Kang Seong-jo, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "I hope the capabilities of forestry education experts will be further developed through this contest, and we will strive to provide various forestry education services to meet the strong interest of the residents in forestry education."
This year, the province is operating a total of 85 forestry education experts (36 forest interpreters and 49 early childhood forest instructors) deployed across 16 institutions in natural recreation forests, arboretums, and early childhood forest experience centers.
