[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 23rd, Pohang City in Gyeongbuk held the 'This Year's Women-Friendly City Citizen Participation Group Appointment Ceremony' at the city hall's main conference room, attended by 31 citizen participants.

At this event, along with the appointment ceremony of the citizen participation group, a special lecture was held under the theme "The Women-Friendly City I Wish For, The Women-Friendly City Pohang We Create!" with Yoon Jeong-sook, head of the Rodemnamu Family Counseling Center, invited as the lecturer.

The city's Women-Friendly City Citizen Participation Group appointed 31 members for a three-year term through an open recruitment from May 25 to June 8.

The Women-Friendly City Citizen Participation Group is a citizen participation communication policy promoted to create "Pohang, a special city of hope that is convenient, safe, and happy for all citizens from a women-friendly perspective." They monitor inconveniences related to urban infrastructure, public facilities, and policies from a gender-sensitive viewpoint, discover women-friendly policies and propose them, form consensus for spreading women-friendly local culture, act as promotional ambassadors, and play a participatory role in creating a citizen-led local community and policy formation.

Han Sang-ho, Director of the Welfare Bureau, said, "The role of the citizen participation group is important in creating a safe and happy urban environment," and added, "I hope they will take the lead and actively engage so that the city can be reborn as a women-friendly city where all citizens are happy."

Currently, 95 local governments nationwide have been designated as women-friendly cities, and Pohang City, after being re-designated in the second phase in 2017, is now on the verge of applying for a re-agreement this year.
