Jeju Fire Department Conducts Comprehensive Emergency Rescue Drill for Large-Scale Disaster Preparedness

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters and Seogwipo Fire Station recently announced on the 26th that they conducted a comprehensive emergency rescue drill at Seogwipo City Gangjeong Cruise Terminal to establish a rapid response posture in the event of a large-scale disaster and to strengthen joint capabilities with related organizations.

This drill assumed a complex disaster situation where a magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred 30 km south of Gangjeong-dong, Seogwipo City, causing an unexplained fire and partial building collapse within the Gangjeong Cruise Terminal, resulting in multiple casualties. It was a large-scale exercise involving about 250 personnel from 21 organizations and groups including fire services, local governments, police, navy, and medical institutions, along with 48 pieces of equipment.

On the day of the drill, from the initial response activities of the self-defense fire brigade to the step-by-step operation of the emergency rescue control team, and through cooperation with related organizations, rapid response, recovery, and restoration were carried out as if in a real situation to minimize human and property damage in the event of a large-scale disaster at a densely populated facility.

Park Geun-o, head of the Fire Safety Headquarters, said, “To prepare for various complex disasters, we will continuously conduct realistic drills involving related organizations to strengthen large-scale disaster response capabilities and establish a cooperative emergency rescue system.”
