[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Dong-joo] On the 26th, movers are removing fixtures from Eulji Myeonok, a 37-year-old Pyongyang cold noodles restaurant located in Jung-gu, Seoul.
Opened in 1985, Eulji Myeonok is located in the Sewoon Maintenance Promotion District 3-2 area, which received project implementation approval in April 2017. Redevelopment procedures, including compensation and demolition, were initiated in 2019. Eulji Myeonok, which did not apply for the sale, failed to reach an agreement with the redevelopment project operator. The operator filed a lawsuit against Eulji Myeonok for building delivery, winning in the first trial, but Eulji Myeonok appealed. Before the final verdict of the main lawsuit was issued, the operator filed a provisional injunction in January to enforce real estate delivery against Eulji Myeonok. The first trial court dismissed the operator’s request, but the Seoul High Court, which reviewed the appeal, ordered Eulji Myeonok to hand over the building, contrary to the first trial’s decision.
Eulji Myeonok plans to leave Euljiro and relocate to a new location, which has not yet been decided.
