[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] KT announced on the 26th that it has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the autonomous driving business sector with Samyoung and Boyoung Transport, city bus companies in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, and Autonomous A2Z, a specialized autonomous driving solution company.

The signing ceremony, held at the Samyoung and Boyoung Transport headquarters in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, was attended by Kim Hyun-ho, Executive Director of KT Gangnam Western Metropolitan Headquarters, Han Ji-hyung, CEO of Autonomous A2Z, and Shin Bo-young, CEO of Samyoung and Boyoung Transport.

The three parties, including KT, will collaborate on ▲ designing scenarios and providing operational technology consulting for the Anyang-si autonomous driving pilot project ▲ developing hardware and software for autonomous buses and providing operational technology consulting ▲ offering advisory services on autonomous route bus design and completing training for entrusted operation.

Through this, they plan to supply autonomous shuttles during late-night and early-morning hours or in public transportation blind spots, realizing a smart transportation city that guarantees citizens' mobility anytime and anywhere. They aim not only to build the system but also to create services that the public can experience and connect with future autonomous driving services.

KT will provide infrastructure such as 5G and LTE networks and integrate technologies that enhance the safety and efficiency of autonomous cooperative driving, such as Real-Time Kinematic positioning (RTK) and Local Dynamic Map (LDM), into the control platform.

Samyoung and Boyoung Transport will be responsible for demonstration and operation of autonomous driving-based public transportation services in the city, leveraging their capabilities as regional transportation operators.

Autonomous A2Z, based on its technology expertise from conducting the largest number of autonomous driving demonstrations in Korea, will establish a commercialization foundation for autonomous buses on designated routes and proceed with technology demonstration and infrastructure construction.

Kim Hyun-ho, Executive Director of KT Gangnam Western Metropolitan Headquarters, said, "We will engage in progressive win-win cooperation with local government transportation service providers to demonstrate autonomous driving-based public transportation service cities. Through this, we will realize smart transportation cities and contribute to improving transportation welfare for the people of the Republic of Korea."
