[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Junhyung] Lee Chang-yang, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, is visiting the Czech Republic and Poland to promote nuclear power plant contracts.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 26th that Minister Lee will visit the Czech Republic and Poland from the 27th of this month to the 1st of next month. This trip is Minister Lee's first overseas business trip since his inauguration last month. He plans to discuss industrial and energy cooperation measures in the Czech Republic and Poland.

The reason Minister Lee chose the Czech Republic and Poland as his first overseas destinations is to promote nuclear power plant contract activities. In fact, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to focus on nuclear cooperation with the Czech Republic and Poland through this trip.

In the Czech Republic, Minister Lee will meet with Minister Sikela of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Senate President Vystrcil. The Czech Republic is currently pursuing a nuclear power project worth 8 trillion won. In Poland, he will hold bilateral meetings with high-ranking officials including Minister Moskva of the Ministry of Climate and Environment and Minister Buda of the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. The Polish government is promoting the construction of new nuclear power plants worth 40 trillion won.

Minister Lee plans to actively emphasize the necessity of nuclear cooperation during meetings with high-ranking officials from the Czech Republic and Poland. He intends to specifically explain the advantages of Korea's construction capabilities and parts and equipment manufacturing capacity. Discussions will also be held to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in advanced industries and defense sectors, such as electric vehicles, hydrogen, and batteries, which are common interests of the Czech Republic and Poland.

Along with Minister Lee's trip, the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's nuclear power export strategy is expected to be fully launched. The Czech and Polish nuclear power projects are the closest in schedule among confirmed nuclear power plant construction plans. If the government puts in effort, visible results worth trillions of won could emerge within one to two years.

Meanwhile, during Minister Lee's trip, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will also hold an event called "Night of Korean Nuclear Power and Advanced Industries" in the Czech Republic and Poland. Businesspeople and government officials from the Czech Republic and Poland will attend. The ministry plans to specifically explain the strengths of Korea's nuclear power industry at the event.
